Defect zero characters predicted by local structure

Abstract

Let GG be a finite group and let pp be a prime. Assume that there exists a prime qq dividing G|G| which does not divide the order of any pp-local subgroup of GG. If GG is pp-solvable or qq divides p1p-1, then GG has a pp-block of defect zero. The case q=2q=2 is a well-known result by Brauer and Fowler.
