Abstract

Let RR be a ring, let aR\mathfrak{a}\subseteq R be an ideal, and let MM be an RR-module. Let Γa\Gamma_{\mathfrak{a}} denote the a\mathfrak{a}-torsion functor. Conditions are given for the (weakly) associated primes of Γa(M)\Gamma_{\mathfrak{a}}(M) to be the (weakly) associated primes of MM containing a\mathfrak{a}, and for the (weakly) associated primes of M/Γa(M)M/\Gamma_{\mathfrak{a}}(M) to be the (weakly) associated primes of MM not containing a\mathfrak{a}.
