Approximation property on entropies for surface diffeomorphisms

Abstract

In this paper, we prove that for any C1C^1 surface diffeomorphism ff with positive topological entropy, there exists a diffeomorphism gg arbitrarily close (in the C1C^1 topology) to ff exhibiting a horseshoe Λ\Lambda, such that the topological entropy of gg restricted on Λ\Lambda can arbitrarily approximate the topological entropy of ff. This extends the Theorem \cite[Theorem 1.1]{Gan} of Gan.
