A note on conductor ideals

Commutative Algebra 2015-08-19 v1

Abstract

Let SS be a commutative ring with identity and RR a unitary subring of SS. An ideal II of SS is called an RR-conductor ideal of SS if I={xSxSV}I=\{x\in S\mid xS\subseteq V\} for some intermediate ring VV of RR and SS. In this note we present necessary and sufficient criterions for being an RR-conductor ideal of SS. We generalize several well known facts about them and present a simple approach to rediscover the results of both old and recent papers. We sketch the boundaries of our criterions by providing a few counterexamples.
