Weakly subnormal subgroups and variations of the Baer-Suzuki theorem

Group Theory 2024-02-02 v1

Abstract

A subgroup RR of a finite group GG is weakly subnormal in GG if RR is not subnormal in GG but it is subnormal in every proper overgroup of RR in GG. In this paper, we first classify all finite groups GG which contains a weakly subnormal pp-subgroup for some prime pp. We then determine all finite groups containing a cyclic weakly subnormal pp-subgroup. As applications, we prove a number of variations of the Baer-Suzuki theorem using the orders of certain group elements.
