The geometric average size of Selmer groups over function fields

Abstract

We show, in the large qq limit, that the average size of nn-Selmer groups of elliptic curves of bounded height over Fq(t)\mathbb F_q(t) is the sum of the divisors of nn. As a corollary, again in the large qq limit, we deduce that 100%100\% of elliptic curves of bounded height over Fq(t)\mathbb F_q(t) have rank 00 or 11.
