The Category Dichotomy for Ideals

Logic 2026-01-09 v1

Abstract

We provide a counterexample to the Category Dichotomy in the framework of ZFC\textsf{ZFC}. That is, we prove the existence of an ideal on ω\omega that is not Kat\v{e}tov below nwd\mathsf{nwd} and does not have restrictions above ED\mathcal{ED}. We also prove that in the Laver model every tall P\mathsf{P}-ideal is Kat\v{e}tov-Blass above EDfin\mathcal{ED}_{\mathsf{fin}} and that it is consistent that every Q+\mathsf{Q}^{+} ideal is meager.
