Abstract

The ss-wave ππ\pi-\pi scattering lengths aI(T)a^I(T) at finite temperature TT and isospin I=0,2I=0,2 are calculated within the SU(2) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. a2(T)a^2(T) displays a singularity at the Mott temperature TMT_M, defined as mπ(TM)=2mq(TM)m_\pi(T_M) = 2m_q(T_M), while a0(T)a^0(T) is singular in addition at the lower temperature TdT_d, where mσ(Td)=2mπ(Td)m_\sigma(T_d) = 2m_\pi(T_d), mσm_\sigma and mπm_\pi being the masses of the σ\sigma and π\pi mesons, respectively. Numerically we find Td=198T_d = 198MeV and TM=215T_M=215MeV. We speculate on possible experimental consequences.
