On tree decompositions whose trees are minors

Combinatorics 2023-02-24 v1

Abstract

In 2019, Dvo\v{r}\'{a}k asked whether every connected graph GG has a tree decomposition (T,B)(T, \mathcal{B}) so that TT is a subgraph of GG and the width of (T,B)(T, \mathcal{B}) is bounded by a function of the treewidth of GG. We prove that this is false, even when GG has treewidth 22 and TT is allowed to be a minor of GG.
