On Schubert varieties of complexity one

Abstract

Let BB be a Borel subgroup of GLn(C)\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{C}) and T\mathbb{T} a maximal torus contained in BB. Then T\mathbb{T} acts on GLn(C)/B\mathrm{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{C})/B and every Schubert variety is T\mathbb{T}-invariant. We say that a Schubert variety is of complexity kk if a maximal T\mathbb{T}-orbit in XwX_w has codimension kk. In this paper, we discuss topology, geometry, and combinatorics related to Schubert varieties of complexity one.
