Most Elliptic Curves over Global Function Fields are Torsion Free

Abstract

Given an elliptic curve EE over a global function field KK, the Galois action on the nn-torsion points of EE gives rise to a mod-n Galois representation ρE,n\rho_{E,n}. For KK satisfying some mild conditions, we show that the set of EE for which ρE,n\rho_{E,n} is as large as possible for all nn, has density 11.
