Monomial resolutions of morphisms of algebraic surfaces

Algebraic Geometry 2007-05-23 v1

Abstract

Suppose that f:YXf: Y\to X is a proper, dominant, tamely ramified morphism of algebraic surfaces, over a perfect field. We show that it is possible to perform sequences of monoidal transforms YYY'\to Y and XXX'\to X to obtain an induced morphism YYY'\to Y which is a monomial morphism.
