Invariance principles for local times in regenerative settings

Abstract

Consider a stochastic process X\mathfrak{X}, regenerative at a state xx which is instantaneous and regular. Let LL be a regenerative local time for X\mathfrak{X} at xx. Suppose furthermore that X\mathfrak{X} can be approximated by discrete time regenerative processes Xn\mathfrak{X}^n for which xx is accesible. We give conditions on X\mathfrak{X} and Xn\mathfrak{X}^n so that the naturally defined local time of Xn\mathfrak{X}^n converges weakly to LL. This limit theorem generalizes previous invariance principles that have appeared in the literature.
