Grothendieck duality for non-proper morphisms

Abstract

We generalize the adjunction between the functors RfRf_* and f!f^! of derived categories of quasi-coherent sheaves for proper morphisms f ⁣:XYf\colon X \to Y of Noetherian schemes to the following situation: Let ff be a finite type morphism and let ZXZ' \subseteq X and ZYZ \subseteq Y be closed subsets such that ff restricts to a proper morphism f ⁣:ZZf'\colon Z'\to Z of ff. Then the functor RfRf_* is left adjoint to RΓZf!R\Gamma_{Z'}f^! when considered as functors between complexes supported on ZZ' or ZZ.
