Global smooth rigidity for toral automorphisms

Abstract

We study regularity of a conjugacy between a hyperbolic or partially hyperbolic toral automorphism LL and a CC^\infty diffeomorphism ff of the torus. For a very weakly irreducible hyperbolic automorphism LL we show that any C1C^1 conjugacy is CC^\infty. For a very weakly irreducible ergodic partially hyperbolic automorphism LL we show that any C1+Ho¨lderC^{1+\text{H\"older}} conjugacy is CC^\infty. As a corollary, we improve regularity of the conjugacy to CC^\infty in prior local and global rigidity results.
