Faces of maximal chain polytopes

Combinatorics 2022-02-09 v2

Abstract

The maximal chain polytope M(P)\mathscr{M}(P) is associated with a finite poset PP. For a set of maximal chains C\mathcal{C}, it is shown that the convex hull of all the points corresponding to elements of C\mathcal{C} is not a face of M(P)\mathscr{M}(P) if and only if C\mathcal{C} has an incomplete guided crown structure. Using this result, several examples, including the dimension of M(m×n)\mathscr{M}(\boldsymbol{m} \times \boldsymbol{n}), are calculated.
