Eigenvalue location in graphs of small clique-width

Combinatorics 2017-10-27 v1

Abstract

Finding a diagonal matrix congruent to AcIA - cI for constants cc, where AA is the adjacency matrix of a graph GG allows us to quickly tell the number of eigenvalues in a given interval. If GG has clique-width kk and a corresponding kk-expression is known, then diagonalization can be done in time O(poly(k)n)O(\text{poly}(k) n) where nn is the order of GG.
