Distribution of reducible polynomials with a given coefficient set

Abstract

For a given set of integers S\mathcal{S}, let Rn(S)\mathcal{R}_n^*(\mathcal{S}) denote the set of reducible polynomials f(X)=anXn+an1Xn1++a1X+a0f(X)=a_nX^n+a_{n-1}X^{n-1}+\cdots+a_1X+a_0 over Z[X]\mathbb{Z}[X] with aiSa_i\in\mathcal{S} and a0an0a_0a_n\ne 0. In this note, we shall give an explicit bound of Rn(S)|\mathcal{R}_n^*(\mathcal{S})|. We also present an application of this bound to reducible bivariate polynomials over Z[X,Y]\mathbb{Z}[X,Y].
