Abstract

We say that a prime number pp is an Artin prime\textit{Artin prime} for gg if gg mod pp generates the group (Z/pZ)×(\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z})^{\times}. For appropriately chosen integers dd and gg, we present a conjecture for the asymptotic number πd,g(x)\pi_{d,g}(x) of primes pxp \leq x such that both pp and p+dp+d are Artin primes for gg. In particular, we identify a class of pairs (d,g)(d,g) for which πd,g(x)=0\pi_{d,g}(x) =0. Our results suggest that the distribution of Artin prime pairs, amongst the ordinary prime pairs, is largely governed by a Poisson binomial distribution.
