A generalization of curve genus for ample vector bundles, I

Abstract

A new genus g=g(X,\ce)g=g(X,\ce) is defined for the pairs (X,\ce)(X,\ce) that consist of nn-dimensional compact complex manifolds XX and ample vector bundles \ce\ce of rank rr less than nn on XX. In case r=n1r=n-1, gg is equal to curve genus. Above pairs (X,\ce)(X,\ce) with gg less than two are classified. For spanned \ce\ce it is shown that gg is greater than or equal to the irregularity of XX, and its equality condition is given.
