We prove that the diameter of any unweighted connected graph G is O(k log n/lambda_k), for any k>= 2. Here, lambda_k is the k smallest eigenvalue of the normalized laplacian of G. This solves a problem posed by Gil Kalai.

In this paper we study the Riesz transform on complete and connected Riemannian manifolds $M$ with a certain spectral gap in the $L^2$ spectrum of the Laplacian. We show that on such manifolds the Riesz transform is $L^p$ bounded for all $p…

We present a new method to approximate the Neumann spectrum of a Laplacian on a fractal K in the plane as a renormalized limit of the Neumann spectra of the standard Laplacian on a sequence of domains that approximate K from the outside.…

Some arithmetic properties of spectral curves are discussed: the spectral curve, for example, of a charge $n\ge2$ Euclidean BPS monopole is not defined over $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$ if smooth.

It is known for a long time that a nonsingular real algebraic curve of degree 2k in the projective plane cannot have more than 7/2*k^2-9/4*k+3/2$ even ovals. We show here that this upper bound is asymptotically sharp, that is to say we…

We consider Laplacians on periodic equilateral metric graphs. The spectrum of the Laplacian consists of an absolutely continuous part (which is a union of an infinite number of non-degenerated spectral bands) plus an infinite number of flat…

We propose a noncommutative version of the Euclidean Lie algebra $E_2$. Several types of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems expressed in terms of generic combinations of the generators of this algebra are investigated. Using the breakdown of…

The spectrum of the Dirichlet Laplacian on conical layers is analysed through two aspects: the infiniteness of the discrete eigenvalues and their expansions in the small aperture limit. On the one hand, we prove that, for any aperture, the…
