We introduce numbers depending on three parameters which we call skyscraper numbers. We discuss properties of these numbers and their relationship with Stirling numbers of the first kind, and we also introduce a skyscraper sequence.

New identities and congruences involving the ranks and cranks of partitions are proved. The proof depends on a new partial differential equation connecting their generating functions.

We extend recent results by G. E. Andrews and G. Simay on the $m$th largest and $m$th smallest parts of a partition to the more general context of skew plane partitions. In order to do this, we introduce new objects called skew plane…

The collection of reflecting hyperplanes of a finite Coxeter group is called a reflection arrangement and it appears in many subareas of combinatorics and representation theory. We focus on the problem of counting regions of reflection…

The aim of this paper is the computation of the degree and genus of all incidence scrolls in Pn. For this, we fix the dimension of a linear space which have a base space of this fixed dimension. In this way, we can obtain all the incidence…

The Prytz planimeter is a simple mechanical device that historically was used to approximate areas of plane regions. In this article, we present a mathematical description and analysis of the planimeter in terms of sub-Riemannian geometry…

Two-, three- and four-dimensional representations of Penrose tilings of the plane are described. The vertices that occur in these representations lie on lattices. Symmetries and methods of visualizing these representations are discussed.…

A tessellation or tiling is a collection of sets, called tiles, that cover a plane without gaps and overlaps. The present note is an invitation to get to know the beauty and majesty of tessellations and triangulation of orientable surfaces.

A staircase is the set of points in Z^2 below a given rational line in the plane that have Manhattan Distance less than 1 to the line. Staircases are closely related to Beatty and Sturmian sequences of rational numbers. Connecting the…
