We answer a question of Ciro Ciliberto about cylinders in rational surfaces which are obtained by blowing up the plane at points in general position.
We consider cylinders in ${\cal H}^2\times R$ (see definitions in the introduction) and prove that a complete and connected surface in ${\cal H}^2\times R$ with the vanishing of the Gauss and extrinsic curvatures is a cylinder.
We show that the minimal model program on any smooth projective surface is realized as a variation of the moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable objects in the derived category of coherent sheaves.
We present a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a contractible Hamiltonian Cycle in the edge graph of equivelar maps on surfaces. We also present an algorithm to construct such cycles. This is further generalized and shown…
Two cycles on a projective variety over an algebraically closed field are shown to be rationally equivalent if and only if their difference equals a difference of complete intersections of a certain kind. Some of Bloch's conjectures for…
For any positive integer $r$, we construct a smooth complex projective rational surface which has at least $r$ real forms not isomorphic over $\mathbb{R}$.
In this paper we investigate constant mean curvature surfaces with nonempty boundary in Euclidean space that meet a right cylinder at a constant angle along the boundary. If the surface lies inside of the cylinder, we obtain some results of…
We prove that a surface in Euclidean $3$-space has Maslovian normal bundle if and only if it is a part of a round sphere, a circular cylinder, or a circular cone.
We study polarized cylinders in certain rational surfaces arising from blow-ups of weighted projective planes. In particular, we consider the surfaces obtained by blowing up $m+4$ points in general position on the weighted projective plane…
We present a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a contractible, non-separating and noncontractible separating Hamiltonian cycle in the edge graph of polyhedral maps on surfaces. In particular, we show the existence of…
CMC surfaces in spheres are investigated under the extra condition of biharmonicity. From the work of Miyata, especially in the flat case, we give a complete description of such immersions and show that for any $h\in (0,1)$ there exist CMC…
Our start point is a 3D piecewise smooth vector field defined in two zones and presenting a shared fold curve for the two smooth vector fields considered. Moreover, these smooth vector fields are symmetric relative to the fold curve, giving…
See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izbGXdjvK_I for a YouTube video showing part of the results in this paper. We will consider surfaces whose mean curvature at a point is a linear function of the square of the distance from that point to the…
We derive constraints on the existence of walls for Bridgeland stability conditions for general projective surfaces. We show that in suitable planes of stability conditions the walls are bounded and derive conditions for when the number of…
We prove: If a complete connected smooth surface M in euclidean 3-space has general position, intersects some plane along a clean figure-8 (a loop with total curvature zero) and all compact intersections with planes have central symmetry,…
In this paper we present some properties for projective hypersurfaces, smooth and singular, to be criteria for identification. To make the decision with these criteria, we have included procedures written in Singular language.
Smooth real cubic surfaces are birationally trivial (over $\R$) if and only if their real locus is connected or, equivalently, if and only if they have two skew real lines or two skew complex conjugate lines. In such a case a…
We study rationality properties of quadric surface bundles over the projective plane. We exhibit families of smooth projective complex fourfolds of this type over connected bases, containing both rational and non-rational fibers.
In many biological and small scale technological applications particles may transiently bind to a cylindrical surface. In between two binding events the particles diffuse in the bulk, thus producing an effective translation on the cylinder…
We show that a real rational (over $\C$) surfaces are quasi-simple, i.e., that such a surface is determined up to deformation in the class of real surfaces by the topological type of its real structure.
