In this note, we show that $S(n,r):=\sum_{k=0}^{n} \binom{n}{k}\frac{k}{k+r}$ is not an integer for any positive integer $n$ and $r\in \{1,2,3,4,5,6\}$ and for $n\le r-1$. This gives a partial answer to a conjecture of [3].

Our starting point is an improved version of a result of D. Hajela related to a question of Koml\'{o}s: we show that if $f(n)$ is a function such that $\lim\limits_{n\to\infty }f(n)=\infty $ and $f(n)=o(n)$, there exists $n_0=n_0(f)$ such…

The purpose of this paper consists to study the sums of the type $P(n) + P(n - d) + P(n - 2 d) + \dots$, where $P$ is a real polynomial, $d$ is a positive integer and the sum stops at the value of $P$ at the smallest natural number of the…

A positive integer n is said to be perfect if sigma(n)=2n, where sigma denotes the sum of the divisors of n. In this article, we show that if n is an even perfect number, then any integer m<=n is expressed as a sum of some of divisors of n.

It is shown that the p-summing norm of any operator with n-dimensional domain can be well-aproximated using only ``few" vectors in the definition of the p-summing norm. Except for constants independent of n and log n factors, ``few" means n…

We give a complete and elementary proofs of "Jordan's sums" and study Euler's types sums. In particular we give a formula for the sum of series with same weight, which is similar to this one of classical 2-Euler's sums.

An alternating sum of compositions of N vector fields is called N-commutator. In general N-commutator of N vector fields is no longer a vector field. Question: is it possible to find N=N(n), such that N-commutator of any vector fields in…

Let $S$ be a $k$-colored (finite) set of $n$ points in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 3$, in general position, that is, no {$(d + 1)$} points of $S$ lie in a common $(d - 1)$}-dimensional hyperplane. We count the number of empty monochromatic…

Gerbner, Patk\'{o}s, Tuza, and Vizer recently initiated the study of $F$-saturated regular graphs. One of the essential problems in this line of research is determining when such a graph exists. Using generalized sum-free sets we prove that…

For the Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n,k)$ and the ordered Bell numbers $B(n)$, we prove the identity $\sum_{k=1}^{n/2} S(n,2k)(2k-1)! = B(n-1)$. An analogous identity holds for the sum over odd $k$'s.
