We discuss the behaviour of the bottom of the spectrum of scalar Schr\"odinger operators under Riemannian coverings of orbifolds. We apply our results to geometrically finite and to conformally compact orbifolds.

We prove that if a Riemannian covering preserves the bottom of the spectrum of a Schr\"{o}dinger operator, which belongs to the discrete spectrum of the operator on the base manifold, then the covering is amenable.

For Riemannian submersions with fibers of basic mean curvature, we compare the spectrum of the total space with the spectrum of a Schr\"{o}dinger operator on the base manifold. Exploiting this concept, we study submersions arising from…

We consider discrete Schr\"odinger operators with real periodic potentials on periodic graphs. The spectra of the operators consist of a finite number of bands. By "rolling up" a periodic graph along some appropriate directions we obtain…

In this note we provide an explicit lower bound on the spectral gap of one-dimensional Schr\"odinger operators with non-negative bounded potentials and subject to Neumann boundary conditions.

The determination of the spectrum of a Schr\"odinger operator is a fundamental problem in mathematical quantum mechanics. We discuss a series of results showing that Schr\"odinger operators can exhibit spectra that are remarkably thin in…

For a Riemannian covering $\pi\colon M_1\to M_0$, the bottoms of the spectra of $M_0$ and $M_1$ coincide if the covering is amenable. The converse implication does not always hold. Assuming completeness and a lower bound on the Ricci…

We consider the Schr\"odinger operator in the plane with delta-potential supported by a curve. For the cases of an infinite curve and a finite loop we give estimates on the lower bound of the spectrum expressed explicitly through the…

In this paper we continue the study of the spectral gap of Schr\"odinger operators on large intervals and subject to Neumann boundary conditions. The main goal is to derive a lower bound on the spectral gap which is polynomial in the…

We study periodic magnetic Schr\"odinger operators on covers of closed manifolds in relation to Ma\~n\'e's critical energy values of the corresponding classical Hamiltonian systems. In particular, we show that if the covering transformation…

For a Riemannian covering $M_1\to M_0$ of complete Riemannian manifolds with boundary (possibly empty) and respective fundamental groups $\Gamma_1\subseteq\Gamma_0$, we show that the bottoms of the spectra of $M_0$ and $M_1$ coincide if the…

Spectral properties of Schr\"odinger operators on compact metric graphs are studied and special emphasis is put on differences in the spectral behavior between different classes of vertex conditions. We survey recent results especially for…
