Motivated by the generalized Bloch conjecture, we formulate a conjecture about the Chow groups of Pl\"ucker hypersurfaces in Grassmannians. We prove weak versions of this conjecture.

For a projective hypersurface $X \subset \P^n$, the images of the polar maps of degree $k$ are studied. The cohomology class defined by these maps is calculated and classical results on dual varieties are presented as applications.

We consider Kapranov's Chow quotient compactification of the moduli space of ordered n-tuples of hyperplanes in P^{r-1} in linear general position. For r=2 this is canonically identified with the Grothendieck-Knudsen compactification of…

We introduce and study higher order Jacobian ideals, higher order and mixed Hessians, higher order polar maps, and higher order Milnor algebras associated to a reduced projective hypersurface. We relate these higher order objects to some…

In this paper we study higher even Gaussian maps of the canonical bundle on hyperelliptic curves and we determine their rank, giving explicit descriptions of their kernels. Then we use this descriptions to investigate the hyperelliptic…

We study the moduli spaces of polygons in R^2 and R^3, identifying them with subquotients of 2-Grassmannians using a symplectic version of the Gel'fand-MacPherson correspondence. We show that the bending flows defined by Kapovich-Millson…

The Danielewski hypersurfaces are the hypersurfaces $X_{Q,n}$ in $\mathbb{C}^3$ defined by an equation of the form $x^ny=Q(x,z)$ where $n\geq1$ and $Q(x,z)$ is a polynomial such that $Q(0,z)$ is of degree at least two. They were studied by…

The Khovanov-Springer variety X(n) is a certain subvariety of the variety of flags of length 2n, which has been studied from various different points of view. We give a new proof of the ring structure of the cohomology of X(n) and relate it…

Inspired by Le Calvez' theory of transverse foliations for dynamical systems of surfaces, we introduce a dynamical invariant, denoted by N, for Hamiltonians of any surface other than the sphere. When the surface is the plane or is closed…

We survey the cohomology jumping loci and the Alexander-type invariants associated to a space, or to its fundamental group. Though most of the material is expository, we provide new examples and applications, which in turn raise several…
