We prove a splitter theorem for tight multimatroids, generalizing the corresponding result for matroids, obtained independently by Brylawski and Seymour. Further corollaries give splitter theorems for delta-matroids and ribbon graphs.

The classes of even-cycle matroids, even-cycle matroids with a blocking pair, and even-cut matroids each have hundreds of excluded minors. We show that the number of excluded minors for these classes can be drastically reduced if we…

We consider the following conjecture proposed by Cornu\'ejols, Guenin and Margot: every ideal minimally non-packing clutter has a transversal of size 2. For a clutter C, the tilde clutter is the set of hyperedges of C which intersect any…

The {\em breadth} of a tangle $\mathcal{T}$ in a matroid is the size of the largest spanning uniform submatroid of the tangle matroid of $\mathcal{T}$. A matroid $M$ is {\em weakly $4$-connected} if it is 3-connected and whenever $(X,Y)$ is…

We generalize the well-studied notion of a modular pair of a finite matroid to arbitrary families of sets in infinite matroids, and use it to develop the theory of infinite matroids in several as-yet-unexplored areas. Our results include a…

We introduce and study a natural variant of matroid amalgams. For matroids M(A) and N(B) such that M/(A-B)=N(B-A), we define a splice of M and N to be a matroid L on the union of A and B with L(B-A)=M and L/(A-B)=N. We show that splices…

We use the Strong Splitter Theorem to decompose the excluded minor class of binary matroids with no $E_4$-minor. Using this theorem we can get the 3-decomposers and the extremal internally 4-connected matroids as well as any other important…

We investigate the set of excluded minors of connectivity 2 for the class of frame matroids. We exhibit a list $\mathcal{E}$ of 18 such matroids, and show that if $N$ is such an excluded minor, then either $N \in \mathcal{E}$ or $N$ is a…

In this paper, we consider the generalization of chordal graphs to clutters proposed by Bigdeli, et al in J. Combin. Theory, Series A (2017). Assume that $\mathcal{C}$ is a $d$-dimensional uniform clutter. It is known that if $\mathcal{C}$…

The splitting operation on a $p$-matroid does not necessarily preserve connectivity. It is observed that there exists a single element extension of the splitting matroid which is connected. In this paper, we define the element splitting…

A laminar family is a collection $\mathscr{A}$ of subsets of a set $E$ such that, for any two intersecting sets, one is contained in the other. For a capacity function $c$ on $\mathscr{A}$, let $\mathscr{I}$ be $\{I:|I\cap A| \leq…
