We give a combinatorial proof of a formula giving the partial sums of the $k$-bonacci sequence as alternating sums of powers of two multiplied by binomial coefficients. As a corollary we obtain a formula for the $k$-bonacci numbers.
In this paper we construct a new q-Euler numbers and polynomials. By using these numbers and polynomials, we give the interesting formulae related to alternating sums of powers of consecutive q-integers following an idea due to Euler.
We present some new linear, quadratic, cubic and quartic binomial Fibonacci, Lucas and Fibonacci--Lucas summation identities.
We consider a special class of binomial sums involving harmonic numbers and we prove three identities by using the elementary method of the partial fraction decomposition. Some applications to infinite series and congruences are given.
This paper shows that a finite discrete convolution involving Stirling numbers of both kinds and harmonic numbers can be expressed in terms of the Bernoulli numbers. As applications of this expression, the linear recurrence relation for the…
We compute the sum and the alternating sum of the reciprocals of triangular numbers using two standard methods from calculus: a telescoping series approach and a power series approach. We then extend these results to generalized…
This paper develops an approach to the evaluation of quadratic Euler sums that involve harmonic numbers. The approach is based on simple integral computations of polyloga- rithms. By using the approach, we establish some relations between…
We study two new classes of sums with inverse binomial coefficients and harmonic numbers. In addition we establish recursive solutions to the following power sums \begin{equation*} U_d(n) = \sum_{k=1}^n \frac{2^{2k}}{\binom{2k}{k}} \cdot…
A generating function for reciprocal binomial coefficients is written down, integral representations of this function are obtained, generating functions for sums of reciprocal binomial coefficients are derived, new identities are obtained,…
We examine what integers are representable as sums of three cubes. We also provide formulas for the number of representations of $x^3+y^3+z^3=n$ under the condition $x+y+z=t$. Also we show how the problem of three cubes is related to…
Spivey presented a new approach to evaluate combinatorial sums by using finite differences. We present some closed forms for sums involving the binomial coefficients, Fibonacci and Lucas numbers in terms of the falling factorial.
The authors review results implicit in their recent paper [2] on the product/quotient representation of rationals by rationals of the type $( an + b )/ ( An+ B )$ and give a detailed account of a particular related non-intuitive…
We derive closed form expressions for finite and infinite Fibonacci-Lucas sums having products of Fibonacci or Lucas numbers in the denominator of the summand. Our results generalize and extend those obtained by pioneer Brother Alfred…
In this short note, we establish some identities containing sums of binomials with coefficients satisfying third order linear recursive relations. As a result and in particular, we obtain general forms of earlier identities involving…
We give some theoretical and computational results on "random" harmonic sums with prime numbers, and more generally, for integers with a fixed number of prime factors.
In this paper, we give explicit evaluation for some infinite series involving generalized (alternating) harmonic numbers. In addition, some formulas for generalized (alternating) harmonic numbers will also be derived.
In this paper, we find an elementary approach for double sums where the inner sum is binomial but incomplete. We apply our core identity and its relatives to double sums involving famous numbers such as harmonic numbers, Fibonacci numbers,…
We consider binomial and inverse binomial sums at infinity and rewrite them in terms of a small set of constants, such as powers of $\pi$ or $\log(2)$. In order to perform these simplifications, we view the series as specializations of…
This paper extends previous work on linear correlations of representation functions of positive definite binary quadratic forms to allow indefinite forms.
In this article we further develop methods for representing integers as a sum of three cubes. In particular, a barrier to solving the case $k=3$, which was outlined in a previous paper of the second author, is overcome. A very recent…
