To enable the enhancement of few-cycle pulses in high-finesse passive optical resonators, a novel complementary-phase approach is considered for the resonator mirrors. The design challenges and first experimental results are presented.

The purpose of this paper is to give the flavor of the subject of self-similar tilings in a relatively elementary setting, and to provide a novel method for the construction of such polygonal tilings.

We introduce self-dual manifolds and show that they can be used to encode mirror symmetry for affine-K\"{a}hler manifolds and for elliptic curves. Their geometric properties, especially the link with special lagrangian fibrations and the…

This is a review article on mirror symmetry and aspects of it related to the theory of modular forms. We describe this topic along its historical development and connect to some more recent results toward the end. The article is for…

We describe a new technology for the fabrication of inexpensive high-quality mirrors. We begin by chemically producing a large number of metallic nanoparticles coated with organic ligands. The particles are then spread on a liquid substrate…

We introduce the concept of non-uniform metamirrors (full-reflection metasurfaces) providing full control of reflected wave fronts independently from the two sides of the mirror. Metamirror is a single planar array of electrically small…

An extensive characterization of high finesse optical cavities used in cavity QED experiments is described. Different techniques in the measurement of the loss and phase shifts associated with the mirror coatings are discussed and their…

In this survey, I suggest to approach the problem of functorial properties of quantum cohomology by drawing lessons from several versions of Mirror duality involving deformation spaces.

The present article studies combinatorial tilings of Euclidean or spherical spaces by polytopes, serving two main purposes: first, to survey some of the main developments in combinatorial space tiling; and second, to highlight some new and…

We discuss a new technology that promises large inexpensive mirrors. We argue that it should be possible to tilt a rotating viscous liquid by perhaps as much as a few tens of degrees. The tilted liquid parabolic surface is used as the…
