We establish formulas for bounds on the Haudorff measure of the intersection of certain Cantor sets with their translates. As a consequence we obtain a formula for the Hausdorff dimensions of these intersections.
For Borel subsets A and B of the Euclidean n-space the intersection of A with generic rotations and translations of B has often Hausdorff dimension at least dim A + dim B - n. Estimates for the exceptional set of rotations are derived.
Algorithmic fractal dimensions quantify the algorithmic information density of individual points and may be defined in terms of Kolmogorov complexity. This work uses these dimensions to bound the classical Hausdorff and packing dimensions…
We consider some properties of the intersection of deleted digits Cantor sets with their translates. We investigate conditions on the set of digits such that, for any t between zero and the dimension of the deleted digits Cantor set itself,…
Kenyon and Peres (1991) showed that the Hausdorff dimension of intersections of randomly translated Cantor sets can be expressed in terms of the top Lyapunov exponent of a product of random matrices, and this exponent can be written as an…
We study the geometry of dynamically defined Cantor sets in arbitrary dimensions, introducing a criterion for $\mathcal{C}^{1+\alpha}$ stable intersections of such Cantor sets, under a mild bunching condition. This condition is naturally…
It is well known that a pair of compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d \in \mathbb{N}$) can be separated by small deformations if the sum of their upper box dimensions is less than $d$. In this paper, we demonstrate that this dimension…
The classical Cantor's intersection theorem states that in a complete metric space $X$, intersection of every decreasing sequence of nonempty closed bounded subsets, with diameter approaches zero, has exactly one point. In this article, we…
Let $E, F\subset \R^d$ be two self-similar sets. Under mild conditions, we show that $F$ can be $C^1$-embedded into $E$ if and only if it can be affinely embedded into $E$; furthermore if $F$ can not be affinely embedded into $E$, then the…
Intermediate dimensions were recently introduced to interpolate between the Hausdorff and box-counting dimensions of fractals. Firstly, we show that these intermediate dimensions may be defined in terms of capacities with respect to certain…
This paper studies the Hausdorff dimension of the intersection of isotropic projections of subsets of $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$, as well as dimension of intersections of sets with isotropic planes. It is shown that if $A$ and $B$ are Borel subsets…
Two tantalizing invariants of a combinatorial code $\mathcal C\subseteq 2^{[n]}$ are cdim$(\mathcal C)$ and odim$(\mathcal C)$, the smallest dimension in which $\mathcal C$ can be realized by convex closed or open sets, respectively. Cruz,…
We investigate the box-counting dimension of the image of a set $E \subset \mathbb{R}$ under a random multiplicative cascade function $f$. The corresponding result for Hausdorff dimension was established by Benjamini and Schramm in the…
Let $A$ and $B$ be Borel subsets of the Euclidean $n$-space with $\dim A + \dim B > n$. This is a survey on the question: what can we say about the Hausdorff dimension of the intersections $A\cap (g(B)+z)$ for generic orthogonal…
This paper continues the study of the structure of finite intersections of general multiplicative translates $\mathcal{C}(M_1,\ldots,M_n)=\frac{1}{M_1}\Sigma_{3,\bar{2}}\cap\cdots\cap\frac{1}{M_n}\Sigma_{3,\bar{2}}$ for integers $1\leq…
This paper contains new results on two classical topics in fractal geometry: projections, and intersections with affine planes. To keep the notation of the abstract simple, we restrict the discussion to the planar cases of our theorems. Our…
Let $V$ be an $n$-dimensional vector space over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. Suppose that $\mathscr{F}$ is an intersecting family of $m$-dimensional subspaces of $V$. The covering number of $\mathscr{F}$ is the minimum dimension of a…
We show that if $B \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ and $E \subset A(n,k)$ is a nonempty collection of $k$-dimensional affine subspaces of $\mathbb{R}^n$ such that every $P \in E$ intersects $B$ in a set of Hausdorff dimension at least $\alpha$ with…
A classical theorem due to Mattila (see \cite{Mat84}; see also \cite{M95}, Chapter 13) says that if $A,B \subset {\Bbb R}^d$ of Hausdorff dimension $s_A, s_B$, respectively, with $s_A+s_B \ge d$, $s_B>\frac{d+1}{2}$ and $dim_{{\mathcal…
$\theta$ intermediate dimensions are a continuous family of dimensions that interpolate between Hausdorff and Box dimensions of fractal sets. In this paper we study the problem of the relationship between the dimension of a set…
