We show that if a gauge theory with dynamical symmetry breaking has non-trivial fixed points, they will correspond to extrema of the vacuum energy. This relationship provides a different method to determine fixed points.

It is proposed that asymptotically nonfree gauge theories are consistently interpreted as theories of composite gauge bosons. It is argued that when hidden local symmetry is introduced, masslessness and coupling universality of dynamically…

We write down the gap equation for the fermion self-energy in a finite-temperature abelian gauge theory in three dimensions. The instantaneous approximation is relaxed, momentum-dependent fermion and photon self-energies are considered, and…

The highly non-trivial structure of the $\theta$--vacuum encodes many of the fundamental properties of gauge theories. In particular, the response of the vacuum to the $\theta$--term perturbation is sensitive to the existence of…

Within the set of schemes defined by generalized, manifestly gauge invariant exact renormalization groups for QED, it is argued that the beta-function in the four dimensional massless theory cannot possess any nonperturbative power…

We study the dynamical generation of masses for fundamental fermions in quenched quantum electrodynamics in the presence of weak magnetic fields using Schwinger-Dyson equations. Contrary to the case where the magnetic field is strong, in…

This work proposes a stringent concept of matter mass generation and Theta vacuum in the context of local gauge theory for the strong force under the constraint of the flat universe. The matter mass is generated as the consequence of…

Following fresh attempts to resolve the problem of the energy density of the vacuum, we reconsider the case where the cosmological constant is derived from a higher-dimensional version of general relativity, and interpret the…

We show that the vacuum (zero-point) energy of a low-temperature quantum liquid is a variable property which changes with the state of the system, in notable contrast to the static vacuum energy in solids commonly considered. We further…

An alternative for the Higgs mechanism is proposed. It predicts the appearance in the broken phase of a scalar background field which may be interpreted as describing an almost uniform (i.e., homogeneous and isotropic) superfluid condensate…
