We classify all closed 1-connected manifolds $M$ which look like projective planes, i.e. with integral homology $H_*(M)=Z^3$. Furthermore, we give an explicit construction of these manifolds as Thom spaces of open disk bundles.

R Kerr's Ricci-flat Lorentz 4-manifold was shown by B Carter in 1968 to support a classically completely integrable system of geodesics; here we interpret this system in terms of a locally conformally symplectic structure, which we identify…

The holonomy group of an (n+2)-dimensional simply-connected, indecomposable but non-irreducible Lorentzian manifold (M,h) is contained in the parabolic group $(\mathbb{R} \times SO(n))\ltimes \mathbb{R}^n$. The main ingredient of such a…

We extend the canonical cell decomposition due to Epstein and Penner of a hyperbolic manifold with cusps to the strictly convex setting. It follows that a sufficiently small deformation of the holonomy of a finite volume strictly convex…

The internal space of a N=4 supersymmetric model with Wess-Zumino term has a connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion and holonomy in $\SP(n)$. We study the mathematical background of this type of connections. In particular, we relate…

Given a simply connected, closed four manifold, we associate to it a simply connected, closed, spin five manifold. This leads to several consequences : the stable and unstable homotopy groups of such a four manifold is determined by its…

We analyze two types of relativistic simultaneity associated to an observer: the spacelike simultaneity, given by Landau submanifolds, and the lightlike simultaneity (also known as observed simultaneity), given by past-pointing horismos…

For a Lorentzian homogeneous space, we study how algebraic conditions on the isotropy group affect the geometry and curvature of the homogeneous space. More specifically, we prove that a Lorentzian locally homogeneous space is locally…

A pseudo-Riemannian manifold is called CSI if all scalar polynomial invariants constructed from the curvature tensor and its covariant derivatives are constant. In the Lorentzian case, the CSI spacetimes have been studied extensively due to…

Why is the manifold topology in a spacetime taken for granted? Why do we prefer to use Riemann open balls as basic-open sets, while there also exists a Lorentz metric? Which topology is a best candidate for a spacetime; a topology…
