The relation between thermostats of "isoenergetic" and "frictionless" kind is studied and their equivalence in the thermodynamic limit is proved in space dimension $d=1,2$ and, for special geometries, $d=3$.

Thermostats models in space dimension $d=1,2,3$ for nonequilibrium statistical mechanics are considered and it is shown that, in the thermodynamic limit, the motions of frictionless thermostats and isokinetic thermostats coincide.

The Gaussian isokinetic and isoenergetic thermostats of Hoover and Evans are formally equivalent as remarked by Gallavotti, Rondoni and Cohen. But outside of equilibrium the fluctuations are uncontrolled and might break the equivalence. We…

The relation between finite isokinetic thermostats and infinite Hamiltonian thermostats is studied and their equivalence is heuristically discussed.

Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations often use mechanisms called thermostats to regulate the temperature. A Hamiltonian is presented for the case of the isoenergetic (constant internal energy) thermostat corresponding to a tunable…

We study the problem of a potential interaction of a finite-dimensional Lagrangian system (an oscillator) with a linear infinite-dimensional one (a thermostat). In spite of the energy preservation and the Lagrangian (Hamiltonian) nature of…

Thermostats models in space dimension d=1,2,3 for nonequilibrium statistical mechanics are considered and it is shown that, in the thermodynamic limit, the evolutions admit infinitely many constants of motion: namely the intensive…

We investigate the relation between the phase space structure of Hamiltonian and non-Hamiltonian deterministic thermostats. We show that phase space structures governing reaction dynamics in Hamiltonian systems map to the same type of phase…

Campisi, Zhan, Talkner and H\"anggi have recently proposed a novel Hamiltonian thermostat which they claim may be used both in simulations and experiments [arXiv:1203.5968v4]. We show, however, that this is not possible due to the length…

A holonomic constraint is used to enforce a constant instantaneous configurational temperature on an equilibrium system. Three sets of equations of motion are obtained, differing according to the way in which the holonomic constraint is…

The purpose of this paper is to study thermodynamic length of an isochoric two dimensional thermodynamic system with constant heat capacity. We find that length is related to the heat flow into the substance. We give examples of Ideal gas…
