We discuss the main observational facts on the eruption of V838 Monocerotis in terms of possible outburst mechanisms. We conclude that the stellar merger scenario is the only one, which can consistently explain the observations.

This paper reports a new optical observation of 17P/Holmes one orbital period after the historical outburst event in 2007. We detected not only a common dust tail near the nucleus, but also a long narrow structure that extended along the…

We present new UBV photometric observations (2009-2024) of the carbon-rich post-AGB star IRAS 22272+5435 (V354 Lac), combined with our data spanning over 30 years (1991-2024). The star shows pulsations with two closely spaced periods, 127…

We present results from photometric monitoring of V900 Mon, one of the newly discovered and still under-studied object from FU Orionis type. FUor phenomenon is very rarely observed, but it is essential for stellar evolution. Since we only…

We present the results of modelling the 0.45--1 micron spectral energy distribution of V838 Mon for 2002 November. Synthetic spectra were calculated using the NextGen model atmospheres of Hauschildt et al. (1999), which incorporate line…

Submillimeter bright galaxies in the early Universe are vigorously forming stars at ~1000 times higher rate than the Milky Way. A large fraction of stars is formed in the central 1 kiloparsec region, that is comparable in size to massive,…

M31 RV is a luminous red variable star that appeared for several months in the bulge of M31 during 1988. Unlike classical novae, M31 RV was cool throughout its outburst. Interest in this object has revived recently because of its strong…

We present new, high-sensitivity sub-millimeter observations towards 55 Cancri, a nearby G8 star with one, or possibly two, known planetary companion(s). Our 850 $\mu$m map, obtained with the SCUBA instrument on the James Clerk Maxwell…

V838 Mon is the prototype of a new class of objects. Understanding the nature of its multi-stage outburst and similar systems is challenging. So far, several scenarios have been invoked to explain this group of stars. In this work, the…

We present 5-28 micron SOFIA FORECAST spectroscopy complemented by panchromatic X-ray through infrared observations of the CO nova V5668 Sgr documenting the formation and destruction of dust during 500 days following outburst. Dust…

We present a complete survey of current star formation in the Perseus molecular cloud, made at 850 and 450 micron with SCUBA at the JCMT. Covering 3 deg^2, this submillimetre continuum survey for protostellar activity is second in size only…

We present sub-millimeter and mid-infrared images of the circumstellar disk around the nearby F2V star eta Corvi. The disk is resolved at 850um with a size of ~100AU. At 450um the emission is found to be extended at all position angles,…
