Abstract
We introduce a new induction scheme for non-uniformly expanding maps of compact Riemannian manifolds, proving that the existence of a Gibbs-Markov-Young structure is a necessary condition for to preserve an absolutely continuous probability with all its Lyapunov exponents positive.
