Universal Counting of Lattice Points in Polytopes

Abstract

Given a lattice polytope PP (with underlying lattice \lo\lo), the universal counting function \uuP(\lo)=P\lo\uu_P(\lo')=|P\cap \lo'| is defined on all lattices \lo\lo' containing \lo\lo. Motivated by questions concerning lattice polytopes and the Ehrhart polynomial, we study the equation \uuP=\uuQ\uu_P=\uu_Q.
