Abstract

If a finite group GG is isomorphic to a subgroup of SO(3)SO(3), then GG has the D2-property. Let XX be a finite complex satisfying Wall's D2-conditions. If π1(X)=G\pi_1(X)=G is finite, and χ(X)1Def(G)\chi(X) \geq 1-Def(G), then XS2X \vee S^2 is simple homotopy equivalent to a finite 22-complex, whose simple homotopy type depends only on GG and χ(X)\chi(X).
