Two orbits: When is one in the closure of the other?

Algebraic Geometry 2009-04-30 v7 Optimization and Control

Abstract

Let GG be a connected linear algebraic group, let VV be a finite dimensional algebraic GG-module, and let O1\mathcal O_1, O2\mathcal O_2 be two GG-orbits in VV. We describe a constructive way to find out whether O1\mathcal O_1 lies in the closure of O2\mathcal O_2 or not.
