Abstract

Assume JR3J \subset\mathbb{R}^3 is a non-trivial knot, and assume k^S1×D2\hat k\subset S^1\times D^2 is a satellite pattern. Let NN be the generalized Thurston norm of the homology class of the meridian disk in S1×D2S^1\times D^2 with respect to k^\hat k. Let KK be the satellite knot of JJ with pattern k^\hat k. We show that the trunk number of KK is strictly greater than NN times the trunk number of JJ.
