The scalar sector of the Randall-Sundrum model

Abstract
We derive the effective potential for the Standard Model Higgs-boson sector interacting with Kaluza-Klein excitations of the graviton (hμνn) and the radion (ϕ) and show that {\it only} the Standard Model vacuum solution of ∂V(h)/∂h=0 (h is the Higgs field) is allowed. We then consider the consequences of the curvature-scalar mixing xi R \Hhat^\dagger \Hhat(where\HhatisaHiggsdoubletfieldonthevisiblebrane),whichcausesthephysicalmasseigenstateshand\phitobemixturesoftheoriginalHiggsandradionfields.First,wediscussthetheoreticalconstraintsontheallowedparameterspace.Next,wegivepreciseproceduresforcomputingthehand\phicouplingsgiventhephysicaleigenstatemasses,mhand\mphi,xiandthenewphysicsscalesofthemodel.WeshowthatLEP/LEP2dataimpliesthatnotboththehand\phicanbelight.Intheallowedregionofparameterspace,weexaminenumericallythecouplingsandbranchingratiosofthehand\phiforseveralcaseswith\mh=120\gevand\mphi\leq 300\gev.Theresultingprospectsfordetectionofthehand\phiattheLHC,afutureLCanda\gam\gamcolliderarereviewed.Formoderate|\xi|,boththeanomaloush\to ggcouplingand(when\mh>2\mphi)thenon−standarddecaychannelh \to \phi\phicansubstantiallyimpacthdiscovery.Presenceofthelatterisadirectsignaturefornon−zeroxi.WefindthatBR(h \to \phi\phi)aslargeas30 \div 40 %ispossiblewhen|\xi|islarge.Conversely,if\mphi>2\mhthenBR(\phi\to hh)isgenerallylarge.Thefeasibilityofexperimentallymeasuringtheanomalousggand\gam\gamcouplingsofthehand\phi$ is examined.
