Abstract

We generalize the notion of rapid decay property for a group GG to pairs of groups (G,H)(G,H) where HH is a finitely generated subgroup of GG, where typically the subgroup HH does not have rapid decay. We deduce some isomorphisms in KK-theory, and investigate relatively spectral injections in the reduced group CC^*-algebra. Rapid decay property for the pair (G,H)(G,H) also gives a lower bound for the probability of return to HH of symmetric random walks on GG.
