Combinatorics 2007-05-23 v1

Abstract

Let GG denote a distance-regular graph with diameter D3D\ge 3, valency kk, and intersection numbers aia_i, bib_i, cic_i. By a {\it pseudo cosine sequence} of GG we mean a sequence of real numbers s0,s1,...,sDs_0, s_1, ..., s_D such that s0=1s_0=1 and cisi1+aisi+bisi+1=ks1sic_i s_{i-1}+a_i s_i+b_i s_{i+1}=k s_1 s_i for 0iD1 0 \le i \le D-1. Let s0,s1,...,sDs_0, s_1,..., s_D and p0,p1,...,pDp_0, p_1, ..., p_D denote pseudo cosine sequences of GG. We say this pair of sequences is {\it tight} whenever s0p0,s1p1,...,sDpDs_0 p_0, s_1 p_1, ..., s_D p_D is a pseudo cosine sequence of GG. In this paper, we determine all the tight pairs of pseudo cosine sequences of GG.
