The generalized Levinger transformation

Abstract

In this paper, we present new results relating the numerical range of a matrix AA with generalized Levinger transformation L(A,α,β)=\alphaHA+\betaSA\mathcal{L}(A,\alpha,\beta) = \alphaH_A +\betaS_A, where HAH_A and SAS_A, are respectively the Hermitian and skew-hermitian parts of AA. Using these results, we derive expressions for eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the perturbed matrix A+L(E,α,β)A + \mathcal{L}(E,\alpha,\beta), for a fixed matrix EE and α,β\alpha, \beta are real parameters.
