The first and second homotopy groups of a homogeneous space of a complex linear algebraic group

Abstract

Let XX be a homogeneous space of a connected linear algebraic group GG defined over the field of complex numbers C\mathbb C. Let xX(C)x\in X({\mathbb C}) be a point. We denote by HH the stabilizer of xx in GG. When HH is connected, we compute the topological fundamental group π1top(X(C),x)\pi_1^{\rm top}(X({\mathbb C}),x). Moreover, we compute the second homotopy group π2top(X(C),x)\pi_2^{\rm top}(X({\mathbb C}),x).
