Abstract
Let be the space of type-preserving characters of the punctured torus . The Bowditch space is the largest open subset of on which the mapping class group acts properly discontinuously, this is characterized by two simple conditions called the -conditions. In this note, we show that is in the interior of the complement of if there exists an essential simple closed curve on such that .
