The coarea formula for Sobolev mappings

Abstract

We extend Federer's coarea formula to mappings ff belonging to the Sobolev class W1,p(Rn;Rm)W^{1,p}(R^n;R^m), 1m<n1 \le m < n, p>mp>m, and more generally, to mappings with gradient in the Lorentz space Lm,1(Rn)L^{m,1}(R^n). This is accomplished by showing that the graph of ff in Rn+mR^{n+m} is a Hausdorff nn-rectifiable set.
