Symmetric groups are determined by their character degrees

Group Theory 2011-03-22 v1 Representation Theory

Abstract

Let GG be a finite group. Let X1(G)X_1(G) be the first column of the ordinary character table of G.G. In this paper, we will show that if X1(G)=X1(Sn),X_1(G)=X_1(S_n), then GSn.G\cong S_n. As a consequence, we show that SnS_n is uniquely determined by the structure of the complex group algebra \CSn.\C S_n.
