Recent progress in understanding and controlling spintronic properties of (Ga,Mn)As and related compounds is contrasted to diverging experimental and theoretical results concerning the origin of high temperature ferromagnetism discovered in an ample class of magnetically doped wide-band-gap semiconductors.
