Spherical actions on isotropic flag varieties and related branching rules

Abstract

Let GG be a symplectic or special orthogonal group, let HH be a connected reductive subgroup of GG, and let XX be a flag variety of GG. We classify all triples (G,H,X)(G,H,X) such that the natural action of HH on XX is spherical. For each of these triples, we determine the restrictions to HH of all irreducible representations of GG realized in spaces of sections of homogeneous line bundles on XX.
