Some remarks on bielliptic and trigonal curves

Algebraic Geometry 2015-12-29 v1 Complex Variables

Abstract

We prove some results on algebraic curves XX of genus g2g\geq 2 in characteristic 00. For example: Assume that XX has an automorphism σ\sigma of prime order p5p\geq 5. If σ\sigma has no fixed points, then XX cannot be trigonal. On the other hand, if σ\sigma has fixed points, then XX is bielliptic only if it belongs to one of three extremal types of curves of small genus.
